The multiple activities of cooperation between the National Association of Italian Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather goods and Tanning Technologies ASSOMAC and Pakistan’s association of leather goods, footwear, gloves manufacturers, including PFMA (Pakistan Footwear Manufacturing Association) in Lahore, such as the participation to fairs, workshops and visits to the factories, brought to the decision of maintaining a reciprocal flow of technical information, technological updates of machinery and accessories of interest for the production of footwear in Italy, in Pakistan and in the international market.

This concept of reciprocity materialised thanks to contribution of Italian government through ITA Agency, with the creation of a Footwear Technology Centre, which operational implementation was entrusted to P.I.S.I.E.

The Textile Technology Centre in Lahore, called “Italy-Pakistan Footwear Technology Centre IPFTC” was inaugurated and presented during Dott. Andrea Ferrarese’s visit, the Italian ambassador in Pakistan, on 8th January 2021.

IPFTC was born with the objective of carrying out a technological transfer from Italy to Pakistan, of machinery and relative know-how, with the vision of promoting marketing focused activities of Italian manufacturing companies.

The technology centre is structured in two complementary parts:

  1. Cutting systems, pattern making, prototyping (CAD/CAM)
  2. Physical-Mechanical laboratory to test the quality of footwear

This project foresees the scheduling of training/teaching activities which involve professors and students, but also technicians and entrepreneurs from the field.

The synergic initiative of this project was born thanks to a ban by UNIDO “Establishment of a Design Studio for Leather Footwear Industry Lahore, Pakistan”, that has seen ASSOMAC as the tender winner. A “Design Centre” was built and named PAKISTAN SHOE DESIGN HUB – PSDH which will support Pakistan’s footwear manufacturing companies in improving their productions, from a design, quality and exporting point of view.

The two centres built in Lahore are a bridge between Italian technology builders and suppliers – meaning ASSOMAC’s associates – and the footwear and leather sector in Pakistan: the cooperation which is being developed through the supply of training, seminars and promotional activities, will bring to a better business relationship between the two countries.
